Shallow Water Fishing
From inland lakes,to the shores of the great lakes, all the way to the oceans, you will encounter shallow water fishing. With all the diffrent techniques of running a shallow water spread, having the right planer board for all your needs is a must. Having our fast tracking boards allow you get your baits as close to the shore as possible without endangering your boats trolling depth.Varying your baits depth slightly can create more fish strikes by allowing the fish to see your baits at a diffrent angle. The easiest way to achieve this pattern is by adjusting your lead lengths. This example can be used with a wide varity of baits. From spoons, to body baits, to your ultimate salmon plugs. One example we'll give is by running a billed body bait thats trolling depth is accounted for by the amount of line you have behind your board.(EX. 50 feet of line runs your bait down 8 feet while 60 feet of line runs at 10 feet.)This example will be for fishing in 15 feet of water.Your outside board, or farthest from the boat should be your shallowest board. I would try to keep this boards bait as close to the surface as I felt comfortable with. Usually from 1 to 5 feet down. Knowing that, I'd let out 25 feet of line to achieve a 4 feet running depth with my body bait. Next, I would try to run the middle boards bait in the middle of the water column,or half way down. Therefore, I'd let out 50 feet of line to achieve a maximum diving depth of 8 feet. Next, I'd try to get a bait within a foot or two of the bottom, granting it's a flat bottom. I would then let out 75 feet of line for my inside, or closest to the boat, board. Thus, having a maximum trolling depth of 13 feet. With that side set, and knowing where my baits are in the water column, i'd adjust my other side to run at slightly diffrent depths. Taking about 5 feet of line off every lead. If you find a certain lead is working better than others, by all means change the lead on your other boards to match your better producing board or boards. Speed will change certain diving depths when varied, so having a biggame trolling guide elimanates alot of guess work to what depth your bait is running at. With the great tracking of these boards, they allow for greater ease to target fish at the same depth. By reducing the line let out on each board you could easily troll as shallow as you wanted.
